METHOD FOR PRODUCING A MAGNESIUM ALLOY AND A MAGNESIUM ALLOY PRODUCED ACCORDINGLY

The method for producing a magnesium alloy comprises the following steps : transforming the aluminium-free magnesium into a melt phase; adding and mixing the manganese dichloride into the liquid phase; adding and mixing the rare earth metals as mixed metals in powdered and/or granulate form, these metals containing cerium and lanthanum in a ratio from 1 : 1 to 4 : 1, the proportion of neodymium being under 1 wt.% and the remainder being substantially magnesium. A magnesium alloy produced according to the method comprises aluminium-free magnesium with at least 80 wt.% as magnesium, manganese with 1.0 to 10 wt.% and rare earth metals with 1.0 to 10 wt% on condition that the rare earth metals contain cerium and lanthanum as mixed metals in a ratio from 1 : 1 to 4 : 1, the proportion of neodymium be under 1 wt.% and the remainder be substantially magnesium.
