PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To produce alkaline earth metal carbonate using carbon dioxide in air.
SOLUTION : Polyamine is dissolved into aqueous solution of calcium chloride, strontium chloride, or barium hydroxide being a source of alkaline earth metal ion and is brought into contact with air. The polyamine in the aqueous solution reacts with the carbon dioxide in air to generate carbonate ion, and the carbonate ion reacts with the alkaline earth metal ion in the aqueous and the carbonate is precipitated. Calcium ion can be supplied from seawater and in this case the polyamine is added to seawater and is brought into contact with air. In the case the aqueous solution further contains at least one selected from magnesium chloride, sodium citrate, sodium metasilicate, strontium chloride, calcium carbonate having a characteristic crystal shape such as a dumbbell shape, a spherical shape can be produced.
