PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for producing a green phosphor emitting light upon excitation by ultraviolet rays and visible light, having higher green light brightness than conventional rare earth-activated sialon phosphor, and superior durability compared with conventional oxide phosphor and having a sharp spectrum.
SOLUTION : There is provided a method for producing a phosphor containing Al and a metal element M (wherein M is Eu) incorporated into a crystal of a nitride or oxynitride having a β-type Si3N4 crystal structure to form a solid solution, having an oxygen content in the crystal of ≤0.8 mass%, and emitting visible light having a luminescence peak wavelength in the range of 450 to 650 nm upon exposure to an excitation source.
