PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a curved oxide superconductor superior in an electric performance, a magnetic performance and a mechanical strength, and a method for manufacturing the oxide superconductor capable of manufacturing the oxide superconductor at a low cost. SOLUTION : In the method for manufacturing a RE-Ba-Cu-O based oxide superconductor by heating the mixture of starting materials containing RE compounds (wherein RE is one or more rare-earth metal elements), Ba compounds and Cu compounds at the temperature higher than the melting point of the mixture of starting materials for melting, and then gradually cooling the melt for growing the crystal, the compacts (11, 21 and 31) are placed on the alumina substrates (12, 22 and 32) via the pellet strips (12, 23 and 33) disposed with the steps formed in a predetermined shape, or the compacts are seated on the alumina substrates curved in the predetermined shape via the pellet strips and after heating the compacts for melting, the seed crystals (14 and 34) are set thereon and after maintaining the temperature, the compacts are gradually cooled for crystallization.
