PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a catalyst for decomposition of sulfur trioxide, in particular, the catalyst for decomposition of sulfur trioxide that decreases the temperature required when generating hydrogen by an I-S cycle process. SOLUTION : There is provided the catalyst for the decomposition of sulfur trioxide which includes a composite oxide composed of at least a metal selected from the group consisting of transition metals and rare earth elements, and vanadium as well as tungsten. There is also provided a method of generating sulfur dioxide including the decomposition of sulfur trioxide into sulfur dioxide and oxygen by using the catalyst for the decomposition of sulfur trioxide. Further, in the I-S cycle process, there is provided the method of generating hydrogen where the reaction for decomposing sulfur trioxide to generate sulfur dioxide and oxygen is carried out.
