PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a composite membrane structure excellent in electrochemical properties and a fuel cell, and methods for manufacturing the same.
SOLUTION : The composite membrane structure comprises a hydrogen permeable metal membrane 1 and a solid electrolyte membrane 2. The solid electrolyte membrane 2 is formed by coating on the thermally oxidized surface of the hydrogen permeable metal membrane 1, and comprises a compound basically composed of a perovskite oxide containing a divalent alkaline-earth metal at the A site and at least one of tetravalent cerium and tetravalent zirconium at the B site, and a portion of the tetravalent B site elements is substituted by a trivalent rare earth element. The solid electrolyte membrane 2 comprises a first solid electrolyte membrane 21 obtained by forming a first solid electrolyte precursor membrane by applying an organometallic acid salt solution containing the alkaline-earth metal, at least one of cerium and zirconium, and the rare earth element, and crystallizing the first solid electrolyte precursor membrane by heat treatment including a rapid temperature rise.
