The present invention improves critical current performance while suppressing increase in kinds of raw materials. Additionally, the present invention improves critical current performance even in the case of a single layer. An oxide superconducting thin film includes a superconducting layer containing a plurality of RE-based superconductor units configured by containing rare earth elements, CuO chains, and CuO2 planes; the CuO chain that exists in the RE-based superconductor units around an interface of the superconducting layer and a layer adjacent to a base material side of the superconducting layer, among a plurality of the CuO chains, and has the length longer in the stacking direction than the length of the CuO chains, which are determined by lattice constants of the RE-based superconductor units, by not less than 1.2 times and not more than twice; and an edge dislocation that exists adjacent to the long CuO chain in the stacking direction. Alternatively, the RE-based superconductors of the superconducting layer have CuO2 planes, CuO single-chains, and CuO heavy-chains, and further have different chain portions where the CuO single-chains and the CuO heavy-chains are adjacent to each other, and have the same chain portions where the CuO single-chains are adjacent to each other or the CuO heavy-chains are adjacent to each other.
