The present invention relates to a white light emitting diode having a single phase phosphor. The white light emitting diode having the single phase phosphor is characterized by including phosphor as a single phase compound based on gadolinium (Gd) of the rare-earth metal ions corresponding to a kind of garnet activated by cerium (Ce), wherein the ions included in the phosphor are composed of materials from Groups Ⅰ, Ⅲ, and Ⅶ of the periodic table of elements and are expressed in the following chemical formula. (ΣLn)A(Al1-xMeⅠx/2MeⅤx/2)2[AlO4-xFy/2Ny/2]3, wherein ΣLn=Gd, Y, Lu, Тb, Ce, Pr, and Sm, constants A, x, and y are molar ratios, 0.25≤A≤3.5, 0.001≤x≤0.1, MeⅠ= Li or Na or K, 0.001≤y≤0.05, MeⅤ= V or Nb or Ta. The present invention can emit white light having a high color-rendering index through the single phase phosphor based on gadolinium of the rare-earth metal ions corresponding to garnet.
