PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for producing a light storing material having excellent afterglow properties and high luminance.
SOLUTION : As the crystalline base body of an alkaline-earth aluminate light storing phosphor using Eu2+ as a light-emitting center, (SrxCa1-x)Al2O4 is selected; as an activator becoming the light-emitting center, not Eu2O3 but EuO which is obtained by reducing Eu2O3 beforehand, is selected; and as an assistant activator for imparting a light storage function, Nd2O3 is selected. The specific method for producing the light storing material includes the steps of : using the material except for the EuO selected as the activator; preliminarily sintering the material in an electric furnace to obtain (SrxCa1-x)Al2O4 : Nd as a sintered compact; adding the EuO being the activator to the sintered compact and mixing them; and sintering the obtained mixture to produce the sintered compact of (SrxCa1-x)Al2O4 : Eu, Nd.
