PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a plate-like crystal body with a grain size sufficiently spreading in the planar direction while with a nanometer size in the thickness direction, emitting light of high brightness even by relatively weak exciting electromagnetic waves such as a low-energy electron beam and vacuum ultraviolet ray, especially the one causing substantially no reduction of emission characteristics even when re-adsorbed moisture from environment during its use, to thereby satisfy requirements for a panel display of next generation. ŽSOLUTION : This plate-like phosphor is obtained by the steps of immersing "Linde Q" type zeolite, with hexagonal plate-like crystal morphology and having a composition of K2O-Al2O3-2SiO2-xH2O, in an aqueous solution of rare earth metal soluble salt, effecting ion exchange of a K+ion in the zeolite with a tri- or bivalent ion of the rare earth metal, filtering, washing, drying and firing at a temperature of 200-900°C. The peak in fluorescent spectrum of the phosphor is 610 nm (red) when using Eu, 540 nm (green) when using Tb and 453 nm (blue) when using Tm, respectively as the rare earth metal.
