Provided is a semiconductor ceramic element composed using a semiconducting ceramic in which metal-insulator transition occurs at a practical use temperature, which has sufficient strength and is thereby easy to handle. The semiconductor ceramic element (1) comprises : an element body (2) composed of a semiconducting ceramic comprising a Perovskite-type or a Pyrochlore-type oxide containing a rare earth element, nickel and titanium, a part of the nickel being reduced and present as metallic nickel; and a pair of electrodes (3, 4) formed by sandwiching the element body (2). This semiconductor ceramic element (1) exhibits abrupt resistance changes within a practical use temperature range and can be advantageously used as a temperature sensor.
