A structure represented by the general formula MN(PO3)4 (wherein M is a monovalent metal ion and N is a trivalent metal ion) as a base is modified by replacing part of M or N in the general formula with at least either of a rare-earth element ion and a Group III metal ion. A stress-luminescent material is hence provided which can be produced at a lower burning temperature than conventional stress-luminescent materials and has excellent luminescent properties. Also provide are a process for producing the stress-luminescent material and a use of the material. Furthermore provided are : a stress-luminescent material emittinga high-luminance light having a wavelength shorter than 350 nm; a process for producing the stress-luminescent material; and a use of the material.
