A tool for removing weeds comprises an outer cylinder 5 or shaft with a piston 2 slidable within the cylinder. The piston 2 has a solid plate 3 fixed to the base. The piston 2 has a handle 1 at the end remote from the base. There is a plug 4 with a central hole attached to the top of the cylinder 5, through which the piston slides. There may be a ring 6 attached to the outer cylinder 5 at a determined height above the base of the cylindrical tube. A flat, centre-drilled push down plate 7 may be slid down the outside of the cylinder 5 to rest on top of the ring 5. The combined handle 1 and piston 2 may be greater than 1 metre in length. The tool can remove weeds in plugs of earth creating a hole the ground. A fresh plug with turf can then be inserted to fill in the hole so that there is no gap in the ground or grass.
