PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a light-emitting medium having a color center emission characteristic by obtaining a color center-containing metal oxide by conducting a solid phase reaction concerning also to a metal other than magnesium.
SOLUTION : This method includes : a solid phase reaction process in which a metal belonging to some of alkali metals, alkaline earth metals including magnesium, and rare earth elements excluding scandium whose standard electrode potential when a cation receives electrons to be changed into a metal atom is -2.87 to -2.2 (V), and an oxide whose standard electrode potential of a metal constituting the oxide is -1.7 to +0.4 (V) are heated at a prescribed temperature under a prescribed atmosphere; and a process in which a metal sublimate obtained in the solid phase reaction process is recovered. The obtained sublimate is a metal oxide into which a large quantity of oxygen vacancies are introduced, and which has an emission characteristic originated in a color center. Convenience for industrial production is improved by increasing variation of an oxide to be subjected to the solid phase reaction together with a metal.
