A process for manufacturing a yellow fluorescent material, including a step of covering cores having a composition represented by the formula : M12a(M2bLc)M3dO4 with a film having a polysiloxane linkage. In the formula, M1 is at least one element selected from among alkali metals; M2 is at least one element selected from among Ca, Sr and Ba; M3 is at least one element selected from between Si and Ge; and L is at least one element that is selected from among rare earth elements, Bi and Mn and that contains Eu.
