PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To disclose the use of phosphate-based glasses as a solid state laser gain medium. SOLUTION : The phosphate-based laser glass includes a composition, in mol%, of 35-65 P2O5; 0-20 SiO2; 0-15 B2O3; >0-10 Al2O3; 0-10 Nb2O5; 0-5 TeO2; 0-5 GeO2; 0-5 WO3; 0-5 Bi2O3; 0-5 La2O3; >0-10 Ln2O3 (wherein Ln is laser oscillation ions of Groups 58 to 71 in the periodic table); 10-30 R2O (wherein R is Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs); 10-30 MO (wherein M is Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Zn); and 0-5 Sb2O3. Each of SiO2, B2O3, TeO2, Nb2O5, Bi2O3, WO3, and/or GeO2 is present in a range of >0 but about 15 mol%, and the sum of the amounts thereof is at least 1 mol%. COPYRIGHT : (C)2012, JPO&INPIT
