In a method and a device for conducting a flow of gases in the process of thermally treating a batch of metal materials/workpieces in an industrial furnace, to improve the flow conditions it is proposed to distribute the sucked-in heated gas uniformly in a re-cooling space, conduct it by means of a movable bulkhead to a pressure space and to a suction space, conduct the gas conducted in the direction of original flow directly to the batch by flow separation, then suck it away again and return it to the heating chamber again as cooling gas.
