PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To develop an NOx storage and reduction catalyst having excellent storage and reduction capability of NOx in both cases of before and after degradation and before and after turning to SO2, and having storage and reduction capability of NOx even under a low temperature environment.
SOLUTION : The NOx storage and reduction catalyst includes : a carrier containing either an alkali metal or an alkali-earth metal, and alumina; at least one of NOx storage element selected from a group consisting of alkali metals, alkali-earth metals, or rare-earth elements; and at least one novel metal selected from a group consisting of platinum, palladium, ruthenium, silver, gold, and rhodium. It is more preferable for the carrier containing either an alkali metal or an alkali-earth metal, and alumina to contain either lithium or magnesium, and alumina.
