PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To obtain a screw press type dehydrator which can be operated while the situation of earth and sand within an outer cylinder is supervised. SOLUTION : A screw shaft 7 having a screw vane 6 on an outer periphery is freely rotatably arranged within the outer cylinder 5 of a cylindrical type filter medium having an earth and sand supply port 2 at one end and a dehydrated earth and sand discharge port 4 at the other end. The annular spacing volume 8 between the outer cylinder 5, the screw vane 6, and the screw shaft 7 is successively reduced toward the earth and sand discharge port 4. An earth-pressure gage 9 which measures the earth pressure within the outer cylinder 5 is arranged in a portion of the outer cylinder on the side nearer the earth and sand discharge port 4. Earth and sand presence or absence detecting sensors 13 to detect whether or not the earth and sand exist are arranged at required intervals in the longitudinal direction of the outer cylinder 5.
