PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a transmission device and a transmission system capable of preventing transmission quality from degrading while effectively utilizing an amplification band. SOLUTION : A transmitter multiplexes polarized wave multiplex signal light and non-polarized wave multiplex signal light individually by a multiplexer. An optical amplifier amplifies in a state in which polarized wave multiplex signal light is allocated to the short wavelength side of the amplification band. The optical amplifier amplifies signal light by using an amplification medium doped with a rare earth ion. Thus, an effect of preventing transmission quality from degrading while effectively utilizing the amplification band can be achieved. COPYRIGHT : (C)2012, JPO&INPIT
