PURPOSE : A method for recovery of ruthenium from ruthenium contained waste scraps is provided to improve the recovery rate by heat treating ruthenium dioxide powder at 800~1600°C in a hydrogen atmosphere. CONSTITUTION : A method for recovery of ruthenium from ruthenium contained waste scraps comprises steps of : adding alkali in waste scraps containing ruthenium and other metal components, heating the mixture to a temperature over the melting point of alkali and dissolving the heated mixture in water, filtering the solution to obtain alkaline molten salt leachate, neutralizing the alkaline molten salt leachate with acid, filtering the alkaline molten salt leachate to obtain ruthenium hydrate precipitated powder, heat-treating the ruthenium hydrate precipitated powder at 300~1000°C to obtain ruthenium dioxide powder, and heat-treating the ruthenium dioxide powder at 800~1600°C to obtain ruthenium metal.
