Disclosed are : a polycarbonate resin which has excellent optical characteristics, hue, thermal stability and mechanical properties; and a transparent film which is formed from the polycarbonate resin. Specifically disclosed is a polycarbonate resin which has a glass transition temperature of 110-150˚C (inclusive) and a reduced viscosity of 0.30-0.46 (inclusive) as measured in a methylene chloride solution at a concentration of 0.6 g/dL at 20˚C. The polycarbonate resin is characterized in that a film obtained by molding the resin has an Re 450/Re 550 ratio, namely a ratio of the retardation as measured at a wavelength of 450 nm (Re 450) to the retardation as measured at a wavelength of 550 nm (Re 550), of 0.50-0.93 (inclusive).
