The invention relates to a method for cleaning an exhaust of a diesel engine (1), wherein the exhaust is conducted in an exhaust tract (4) of the diesel engine through a catalytic converter (2) and a particle filter (3) connected downstream to bind soot particles, wherein the catalytic converter (2) and/or the particle filter (3) are coated. According to the invention, the catalytic converter (2) and/or the particle filter (3) have a coating having at least one element from the group of rare earth metals, present in the form of a salt or oxide or element and the particle filter (3) is regenerated actively upon reaching a predefined exhaust counter-pressure in the exhaust tract (4) and/or passively upon reaching a specific exhaust temperature. The invention further relates to a device (5) comprising a diesel engine (1) and an exhaust tract (4) connected thereto, in which there is a catalytic converter (2) and a particle filter (3) connected downstream to bond soot particles, wherein the catalytic converter (2) and/or the particle filter (3) are coated, wherein a method according to the invention is applied.
