PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a solid polymer fuel cell which is practical and has a high battery performance and a superior durability. SOLUTION : This is the solid polymer fuel cell provided with a membrane electrode junction in which electrodes including catalyst layers are joined on both faces of an electrolyte membrane, and with a peroxide decomposition catalyst containing a hardly soluble carbide, boride and/or a silicide fixed to the electrolyte membrane and/or the electrode. The peroxide decomposition catalyst preferably contains carbides, borides and/or silicides of rare earth elements, transition metal elements or typical metal elements. COPYRIGHT : (C)2006, JPO&NCIPI
