PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a hydrogen storage alloy having a relatively high battery capacity and having excellent performance to suppress the deterioration of the battery capacity associated with repeated charge and discharge. SOLUTION : There is provided a hydrogen storage alloy having the chemical composition represented by general formula I : M1pCaqMgrM2sAlt [wherein M1 is at least one element including at least one rare earth element selected from the group consisting of rare earth, group 4A elements, group 5A elements and Pd; M2 is at least one element including at least Ni selected from the group consisting of elements of groups 6A, 7A, 8(excluding Pd), 1B, 2B and 3B(excluding Al); 3(p+q+r)≤(s+t)<5(p+q+r) is satisfied; Al of 0.1 atom% or more; the total content of Ca and Al is 5.3 atom% or less; and the total content of Co and Mn as M2 is 1 atom% or less].
