An exhaust gas-purifying catalyst (10) includes a support substrate (1), a catalyst support layer (2, 3) formed on the support substrate (1) and containing a composite oxide (21, 31) of a rare earth element and zirconium, and a catalytic metal (23, 33) supported by the catalyst support layer (2, 3). In this catalyst (10), all oxides containing the rare earth element are composite oxides of the rare earth element and zirconium in which the atomic ratio of zirconium to the rare earth element is 0.8 or more.
