PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To improve oxidation resistance and thermal shock resistance of a porous material.
SOLUTION : A porous material 1 comprises aggregates 2 having an oxide film 22 on the surface of a particle body 21 and a binder 3 containing cordierite and joining the aggregates 2 in a state where pores 4 are formed. The binder 3 contains a rare earth component (excluding Ce). The porous material 1 can improve oxidation resistance due to the presence of the oxide film 22. Further, the thermal shock resistance can be improved by lowering the thermal expansion coefficients while securing high mechanical strength.
