A glass scitillator which comprises a glass component having a silica or a silicate as a matrix, a rare earth element and a glass modifying component, wherein the rare earth element comprises one or more elements selected from the group consisting of Y, La, Gd and Lu and one or more elements selected from the group consisting of Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm and Yb, the glass modifying component comprises one or more elements selected from the group consisting of Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, B and Al, and it emits a light of an ultraviolet light region, a visible light region or an infrared region when it is irradiated with a photon having a wavelength of less than 100 nm.
