Preparation of a material comprises : providing a metal alloy material (I); extracting at least a part, alkali or alkaline earth metal (A) of the compound, preferably by thermal degradation under vacuum; and recovering the material impoverished or devoid of A. Preparation of a material comprises : providing a metal alloy material of formula (A xG yM z) (I); extracting at least a part, A of the compound, preferably by thermal degradation under vacuum; and recovering the material impoverished or devoid of A. A : at least one alkali metal or alkaline earth metal, preferably lithium, sodium, potassium, rubidium, magnesium or calcium; x : 1-20, preferably 4-10; G : at least an element of the group 14 of the periodic table, including silicon, germanium, tin or lead; y : 1-17, preferably 1-4; M : at least a noble metal or semi-noble metal, preferably aluminum, cobalt, nickel, copper, zinc or and silver; and z : 1-5, preferably 1-2. Independent claims are included for : (1) the material obtained by the process; and (2) a battery comprising the material, and in particular at least an anode comprised or constituted by such a material.
