The invention relates to an improved green emitting material of the form M I3-x- y M II x Si 6-x Al x O 12 N 2 : Euy, whereby M I is an earth alkali metal and M II is a rare earth metal or Lanthanum. This material can be made as a ceramic using a low temperature sintering step, resulting in a better and more uniform ceramic body.
