PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for manufacturing a Faraday rotator excellent in temperature characteristics and showing rectangular hysteresis, and the Faraday rotator. SOLUTION : The temperature characteristics of 0.075 deg/°C or less are attained by growing bismuth-substituted rare earth iron garnet single crystal represented by chemical formula TbyYbxCawBi3-x-y-wFe5-zGazO12, or chemical formula TbyHoxCawBi3-x-y-wFe5-zGazO12 containing Ca by a liquid phase epitaxial method using a golden crucible.
