PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To simplify configuration of a current limiting device. SOLUTION : The current limiting device uses a plurality of components 4, 5, 6 composed of a superconducting material. The components are arranged in a cryostat KR which includes two metallic tubes 1, 2 which are arranged concentrically with respect to one another and between which vacuum insulation 3 is provided. The cryostat KR surrounds a space for a coolant to pass through. Each of the components includes three phase conductors 7, 8, 9 composed of a superconducting material ReBCO based on rare earths, and arranged insulated from one another and concentrically with respect to one another. "n" components are arranged in the cryostat KR and their phase conductors are cyclically electrically connected to one another such that the inner phase conductor 7 of each component, i.e., a first component, is connected to the center phase conductor 8 of a second component, and this center phase conductor 8 is connected to the outer phase conductor 9 of the third component, where n is equal to 3 or an integer multiple of 3.
