A method for depositing metal ions wherein mineral(s), oxide(s) or hydroxide(s) of magnesium or/and calcium is/are used as raw material(s), through at least one process of calcination, slaking and carbonization, to produce aqueous solution(s) of magnesium bicarbonate or/and calcium bicarbonate, which is/are used as precipitant(s) to deposit metal ions from metal salt solutions of rare earth, nickel, cobalt, iron, aluminium, gallium, indium, manganese, cadmium, zirconium, hafnium, strontium, barium, copper and zinc etc. At least one of metal carbonates, hydroxides and basic carbonates is obtained. Alternatively, the obtained products are further calcined to produce metal oxides.
