PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a continuous casting method for a magnesium alloy by which the high dispersibility of an intermetallic compound in a magnesium alloy cast rod is obtained, further the crystal grain sizes of the intermetallic compound and each metal can be fined, and the mechanical properties of a forged part at high temperature can be improved.
SOLUTION : A magnesium alloy molten metal containing, by mass, 0.1 to <10% Zn, at least one rare earth element in an amount of 0.1 to <10%, and 0.05 to <1.0% Zr is poured into a mold 7, electric current is made to flow through a magnetic field generation part 9 arranged around the mold 7, the counter magnetic poles of an N pole and an S pole produced in the diametrical direction of the mold 7 are successively moved to the circumferential direction, and a rotating magnetic field is generated having a magnetic flux density of 5 to 20 mT around the inside of the mold 7 and having a magnetic flux density of ≥5 mT at the diametrical-direction centerl part of the mold 7, thus the magnesium alloy molten metal is given rotational force in the circumferential direction and thereby being stirred, and further, continuous casting is performed at a cooling rate of ≥10 to <50°C/s.
