PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a culture medium material for planting, capable of solving demerits of a conventional soil culture medium through effective use of the bamboo and application of component which the bamboo has as a source of vitality, and to provide a method for cultivating plants using the culture medium material. SOLUTION : This culture medium material for planting is made of a bamboo fiber produced by shaving a bamboo material along a direction of the fiber. The bamboo is easily available because of having a rich resource in the country, and growing naturally in all directions. Furthermore, the bamboo has both air permeability and water retaining properties as a culture medium, prevents root rot of plants and invasion of pest, and facilitates nutrition management because of less absorption of nutrition. The bamboo has a material of organic matter, and so, unlike earth, is disposed of as garbage after using or recycled as a fertilizer. The bamboo is a safe material because of naturally growing without giving a lot of care such as giving a fertilizer and maintaining, and has no toxicity such as a base and an organic metal to be free from the need of disinfection.
