PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide sialon further improved of mechanical and structural characteristics of an electromagnetic material holding magnetic characteristics by using sialon, which is excellent in characteristics as structural materials holding high strength and high toughness, also as the electromagnetic material; and a method for producing the same. SOLUTION : There is provided a method for producing sialon holding magnetism which comprises a stage of mixing silicon nitride, aluminum nitride, alumina and a rare-earth element oxide; and a stage of firing the mixture under nitrogen atmosphere so that the sialon exhibits a saturated magnetization value in a range of 0.15-0.24 emu/g.
