Vehicles travelling over differing forms of pressure pads will cause an electric generator to spin. The power could be used for street lighting, traffic controls and the excess being directed into the National Grid. The pressure pads will form part of the road surface.. The pads will harness energy created during accelerating, braking, cornering or from the weight of a vehicle as it drives along the road.. The generators will employ rare earth magnets and will be hidden below the road surface under the pressure pads.. The link between the generator and the pad may be hydraulic, pneumatic or mechanical ratchet system. It is envisaged that the pressure pads will form of steel road sections having their surfaces treated with a non-slip aggregate to ensure a safe road finish in all weather conditions. The pressure pads will be placed where energy captured is likely to be high, e.g. multi storey car parks, tunnel entrances and roundabouts (the approach to roundabouts would benefit from the forces created during breaking and the exit from acceleration whilst the roundabout itself would capture the centrifugal forces).
