PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide staple fibers for nonwoven fabrics made of polylactic acid that is earth-friendly with biodegradability, capable of preventing the flocculation of the fibers caused by generation of electrostatic charge due to friction between the fibers, or the fiber and a machine, especially in processes for producing nonwoven fabrics of dry type, without application of a special finish agent to the surface of the fibers, and capable of giving the nonwoven fabrics having excellent uniformity, high quality, and enough bulkiness. ?SOLUTION : Polylactic acid A including more than 98 mol.% of L-lactic acid or D-lactic acid in the polylactic acid polymer and polylactic acid B including 88 to 93 mol.% of L-lactic acid or D-lactic acid are employed to produce conjugated fibers. In these conjugated fibers, the single yarn has a fiber length of 1.0 to 30 mm, a single yarn fineness of 0.3 to 40 dtex and crimps are given to the staple fibers, wherein the single yarns have such a shape of the crimp in a maximum mountain area of a crimped part that a triangle formed by connecting a peak of the mountain area to two of bottom points of adjacent valley areas has a ratio (H/L) of a height (H) to a base (L) satisfying the following inequality (1) : 0.01T + 0.1 ≤ H/L ≤ 0.02T + 0.25. ?COPYRIGHT : (C)2006, JPO&NCIPI ?
