The invention relates to a method for marking and/or identifying at least one biomolecule, particularly a protein, a peptide, an antibody, or a nucleic acid, wherein the biomolecule is brought into contact with at least one complex, particularly a chelate complex, of at least one rare earth element (“rare earth complex”), and is brought into interaction, particularly to reaction, therewith, preferably forming a bond, particularly a coordinate and/or covalent bond, preferably a coordinate bond, between the biomolecule and the complex of the rare earth element.
