PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a catalyst carrier where an alkaline earth metal and/or alkaline metal is prevented or suppressed from being moved to a substrate and reacting with alumina in the substrate in the catalyst carrier where a catalyst supporting layer containing the alkaline earth metal and/or alkaline metal is formed on a surface of the substrate of alumina matter.
SOLUTION : Zirconia layer 2 comprising zirconia and/or stabilized zirconia is formed between the substrate 1 and the catalyst supporting layer 3 in the catalyst carrier where the catalyst supporting layer 3 containing the alkaline earth metal and/or alkali metal is formed on the surface of the substrate 1 of alumina matter having a 3-dimensional network structure. The thickness of the zirconia layer 2 is 3 μm or more in a region of 65% or more of the substrate surface. This zirconia layer allows the movement of the alkaline earth metal and/or alkaline metal in the catalyst supporting layer to be prevented or suppressed.
