PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a rare-earth magnet whose high coercive force and high residual magnetic flux density are compatible, and to provide a method of manufacturing the same. SOLUTION : In the rare-earth magnet, a layered grain boundary phase is formed on a part of a grain boundary of Nd2Fe14B which is a main phase of an R-Fe-B (R : rare earth element) magnet. The grain boundary phase contains a fluorine compound, and the thickness of the fluorine compound is ≤10 μm, or the thickness of the fluorine compound is ≥0.1 μm and ≤10 μm, A coverage rate of the main phase grain of the fluorine compound is ≥50% on average. After the fluorine compound of powder which is formed sheet-like on the grain boundary phase is layered, it is melted at the predetermined temperature in vacuum, then is quenched. Alternatively, the main phase and fluorine compound are heated under pressure to form the fluorine compound layered along the grain boundary phase. COPYRIGHT : (C)2010, JPO&INPIT
