PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an electrode active material capable of providing a sodium secondary battery in which the quantity of a rare metal element such as lithium or the like can be reduced and which has a large discharge capacity.
SOLUTION : The electrode active material contains a metal oxide in which a material containing Na and M1 (herein, M1 shows one kind or more elements selected from a group of transition metal element) so that the mol ratio of Na : M1 may be x : 1 (herein, x is a value in a range of 2 or more and 5 or less) is calcined. The electrode active material contains a metal oxide which is expressed by a formula Na4M12O5 (herein, M1 has the same meaning as above). Further, an electrode is provided which contains the electrode active material. The sodium secondary battery has the electrode as a positive electrode.
