PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a dielectric ceramic exhibiting a high permittivity and the stable temperature characteristic of the relative permittivity and to provide a capacitor using the same. SOLUTION : The dielectric ceramic has crystal grains containing barium titanate as a principal element and grain boundary phases formed among the crystal grains and contains magnesium, at least one rare earth element (RE) selected from among gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, holmium, erbium and ytterbium, and manganese each in a fixed ratio to 1 mol barium constituting barium titanate expressed in terms of oxide, wherein lutetium is contained in a fixed ratio to 100 pts.mass barium titanate expressed in terms of oxide and the average particle diameter of the crystal grains is 0.05-0.2 μm. The capacitor having high capacitance and stable temperature coefficient of capacitance is formed by applying the dielectric ceramic as a dielectric layer. COPYRIGHT : (C)2010, JPO&INPIT
