PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a technique capable of decomposing an ammonia gas, especially ammonia contained in gas over a wide range of from low to high concentrations. SOLUTION : This ammonia decomposing catalyst is manufactured by reducing a catalyst precursor containing at least one kind of the elements (platinum group elements) selected from the group consisting of group VIII-X elements and a rare earth metal oxide in a method of manufacturing ammonia decomposing catalyst. This ammonia decomposing catalyst is also preferably contains a refractory inorganic oxide and the acid strength (H0 constant) of the refractory inorganic oxide is preferably -5.6 or above.
