PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a phosphor which emits red light under vacuum ultraviolet light excitation of ≤180 nm, with high light-emitting efficiency, good color purity and short afterglow, and to provide a phosphor paste composition using the phosphor and a VUV-excited light emitting element.SOLUTION : A phosphor for vacuum ultraviolet light-excitation is represented by general formula LnMO4 : Eu, wherein Ln is at least one kind of Y and Gd, and M is at least one of P and V, contains an element L which is at least one of rare earth elements except Y, Gd and Eu, and emits light under vacuum ultraviolet light excitation having a wavelength of ≤180 nm.
