A dielectric ceramic which is represented by the general formula 100BamTiO3+aROn+bMOv+cXOw (wherein R is a given rare earth element, e.g., Dy or La; M is a given metallic element, e.g., Mn or Mg; and n, v, and w are positive numbers unconditionally determined according to the valances of the elements (R) and (M) and sintering aid component (X)). In main-phase particles, the region in which the minor component is present as a solid solution accounts for 10% or less (including 0%) on the average in terms of sectional-area proportion.The sintering aid component (X) includes at least silicon. Symbols m, a, b, and c are 0.995<=m<=1.030, 0.1<=a<=2.0, 0.1<=b<=3.0, and 0.1<=c<=5.0, respectively. Also provided is a layer-built ceramic capacitor including dielectric layers (1a) to (1g) made of the dielectric ceramic. The dielectric ceramic has satisfactory AC voltage characteristics, retains a desired high permittivity and satisfactory temperature characteristics, is reduced in dielectric loss, and can further have reliability. The layer-built ceramic capacitor employs the dielectric ceramics.
