PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To clean the exhaust gas discharged from an internal combustion engine of a car or the like as perfectly as possible and to reduce the content of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbon or fine carbon particles especially in exhaust gas that has passed through a dry catalyst device to the utmost. SOLUTION : A container wherein one end and intermediate part of a cylinder 3 made of a stainless alloy is closed by perforated plates 2 is filled with spherical vitreous particles 1 prepared by a predetermined method to form a column 4 which is, in turn, fixed in the cylindrical body 5 fixed to the terminal part of a conduit 7 of the exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine. The spherical vitreous particles 1 charged in the column 4 to be employed are prepared by a method wherein activated mineral water prepared by alternately repeating a process for passing water pressurized to 5-25 atm through a mineral inorg. substance selected from basalt, andesite and magnetite in a contact state and a process for exposing water passed through this process to an atmosphere with atmospheric pressure below 5-25 atm. is added to a glass raw material and the melt of this raw material is molded into a spherical shape.
