PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for producing magnetic material powder in which the magnetic properties of the main phase are improved, and which has excellent thermal stability as well. SOLUTION : The magnetic material powder is obtained through : a stage where the molten metal of an alloy composed of R1, R2, Co, Fe and an M element in the following general formula (I) is rapidly cooled and pulverized to obtain alloy powder; and a stage where the alloy powder is heat-treated under prescribed conditions, and nitrogen is incorporated therein, and the main phase has a TbCu7type crystal structure, and also, the volume of the unit cell of the main phase is ≥0.276 nm3; wherein, the general formula (I) is R1xR2yAzCouFe100-u-y-z(I); in the formula, R1 is at least one element selected from rare earth elements including Y; R2 is at least one element selected from the group consisting of Zr, Hf and Sc; A is N alone; and x, y, z and u are atomic%, and satisfy 2≤x, 0COPYRIGHT : (C)2006, JPO&NCIPI
