PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a hydrogen storage alloy electrode and a hydride secondary battery having both excellent cycle characteristics and low temperature characteristics at a low cost. SOLUTION : This hydrogen storage alloy electrode contains a hydrogen storage alloy, natural polysaccharide, and a copolymer of maleic acid, its anhydride or its salt and at least one kind of unsaturated monomer. The hydrogen storage alloy is expressed by an AB5type; A is composed of Mm and M, Mm is a mixture of two or more kinds of rare earth element containing 55-80 mass % of La, M is composed of at least one kind of Y, Yb, and Ca, B is composed of Ni, Co, Mn and Al, and B / A is 5.03-5.4 in an atom ratio. This hydride secondary battery is formed by using the hydrogen storage alloy electrode for a negative electrode.
