A cobalt alloy contains (by weight) about 23 to about 30% chromium, about 15 to about 25% iron, 0-27.3% nickel, about 0.75 & Ti + Zr/1.91 + Hf/3.73 & 1.7 %, 0.85 & Nb + Zr + V/1.98 + Ta/1.98 & 1.9 %, 0-0.2 % carbon, 0-0.015 % boron, 0-0.015 % rare earth elements, 0-0.5 % aluminium, 0-1 % manganese, 0-1 % silicon, 0-1 % tungsten, 0-1 % molybdenum, with the balance being cobalt and impurities. The total weight of Ti+Nb+1.52Zr+Hf/3.73+V/1.98+Ta/1.98 is from 1.6-3.6. The alloys may be wrought and are capable of through-thickness nitridation and strengthening.
